Training rides I used to do in the Gambia.
when I rode in Africa, it was hot. Really hot, and I would do 'heat training' rides where I take a liter of water, and ride as far as that lasts, the cycle home. The toughest ones were when a tractor got behind me. They the same average speed as me, but they do it at an incessant pace. Uphill, they go a bit faster, down hill they don't speed up, so they're a bit slower.
I was a bit proud about it, but everybody would say, "that's a fast bike." It's true though, when I rode one of the local bikes, I learned quickly that I would destroy the bike if I tried to go fast on it.
That would happen more often on travel rides.
